3 Reasons Self-Care Is Important

When was the last time you took some time for yourself, on your own? In this day and age many people are working hard to stay afloat, spending spare time with loved ones and working on goals (not to mention constant media distraction). With the busy lives we lead it can be easy to not make time for self-care, however it really is necessary to live a happy and balanced life. Value yourself enough to make it a priority and know that doing this is not selfish! You know a plant obviously wont grow without water and nourishment, just like the plant you need to love yourself and nourish your mind by taking time to do things you that make your heart happy, allowing yourself to grow within your mind, body & soul.

“Rest and self-care are so important. When you take time to replenish your spirit, it allows you to serve others from the overflow. You cannot serve from an empty vessel”.
Eleanor Brownn

Self-care doesn’t need to mean spending hours alone and spending hundreds of dollars on yourself (wouldn’t that be nice). It can be as simple as going for a walk, painting you nails, or meditating to name a few.

3 Reasons Self-Care Is Important

1. Neglecting self-care often leads to people burning out and feeling overwhelmed

Have you felt like you are constantly on the go, without having any kind of break other than to eat and sleep? Are you more tired or irritable? Is it hard to remember the last time you did something for YOU? If you answered yes to any of those questions its time to have some well needed ‘me time’!

2. Practicing self-care can help you to refocus

Do you ever have those days where you just can’t focus? Your thoughts are all over the place and you feel like a total scatterbrain? Maybe you’ve been working on a project for a while and just can’t think of how to proceed? You know its so obvious but you can’t gather your thoughts. Well I can tell you that some good ol’ TLC for yourself is just what you need.

3. Self-care is a simple stress management technique

Everyone gets stressed. Sometimes that stress can build up and weigh you down. Self-care is a pro-active stress management technique. Always make time for yourself throughout the week, this will help keep stress from overwhelming you.

“Love yourself first, and everything else falls in line. You really have to love yourself to get anything done in this world”.
Lucille Ball
